The model comes before the installation
An energy community in a mixed-use building connects renewable generation, different consumption profiles, participation rules and investment choices. The Viale Pasteur study therefore framed the initiative as a decision system: available rooftop area, solar generation, self-consumption, storage, data management, governance and economic sustainability.
Technical data and community organisation
The feasibility work examined rooftop photovoltaic generation and storage scenarios alongside a web and mobile metering layer. It also considered potential BACS integrations for observing consumption and heating-control practices. These components were assessed together with membership models, operating responsibilities and the distribution of benefits. The technical system and the future community organisation could therefore be evaluated within the same frame.
Making different interests comparable
Residents, professional practices and commercial activities have different usage patterns and priorities. The method turned this diversity into comparable scenarios by organising participation assumptions, responsibilities and specialist capabilities. Calculation tools and explanatory material helped bring a technical subject into a shared decision process.
Technology and funding within one path
The study received support from the Rome Chamber of Commerce under the 2023 Digital Transition Voucher. The contribution supported the analysis phase, while the work also examined incentives and financing options relevant to a future initiative. Technology, organisation and economic sustainability were treated as interdependent dimensions.
Project360’s contribution
Project360 promoted and prepared the feasibility study using its own investment and the Chamber contribution. It built the technical-economic frame, developed governance and participation scenarios, prepared assessment tools and coordinated the capabilities needed to discuss the initiative with its stakeholders.
A replicable model
The transferable value is the process: before technologies or suppliers are selected, an energy community needs reliable data, clear rules, assigned roles and understandable scenarios. The same approach can support residential and mixed-use buildings evaluating shared self-consumption. With this foundation, collective decisions can be made on a clearer and more comparable basis.
