From a cycle lane to a territorial system
The Linear Cycle Park was conceived to connect different parts of Formello along approximately 4.8 kilometres. The route brings together home-to-school and home-to-work travel, access to business areas, sport and landscape. Its position on the EuroVelo 5 corridor adds a wider dimension: local infrastructure can become part of a European network.
Designing continuity, safety and services
The feasibility study organised the route into phases and points of interest, considering slopes, crossings, connections and rest areas. A service layer complements the physical route through lighting, SOS points, connectivity, flow monitoring, e-bike charging and mobility information.
The goal is to make the route usable and manageable over time. A user application and a back office with territorial information and indicators allow wayfinding, assistance, maintenance and usage assessment to be considered as part of the same project.
Public funding as an implementation lever
The Municipality of Formello submitted the project under the regional “New Mobility” call. In 2025, the Lazio Region included the Linear Cycle Park in the extended list of projects admitted for funding, with an updated amount of €1,567,808.90. The measure marks the transition from a project vision to a financial framework capable of supporting delivery.
Project360 contribution
Project360 contributed cross-functional technology advice, project documentation and advisory coordination across the authority, technical professionals and partners. The work brought together infrastructure, digital services, measurement criteria and the application path, making a multidisciplinary initiative easier to understand and govern.
A model for local smart mobility
The transferable value lies in the method: start from local needs, build a service system around the infrastructure and connect technical quality with funding opportunities. The same approach can help authorities and operators move mobility, data and sustainability forward together.
